Hotplate, Help!

Do I need sales or an established business to sign up for Hotplate? 

Nope! 🙂 Chefs of all sizes use Hotplate, so whether you're gearing up for sale number 1 or 10,000, we've got you.

Account creation

Hotplate’s core mission is to make the food industry more accessible to anyone with the talent and skills to make amazing things. From that mission, we try to take as little money as possible from our Chefs so someone from any socioeconomic background or business stage can run their food business easily. These are the fees we charge

The fee we charge Chefs is the payment processing fee that Stripe, the company we use to handle card payments, charges us. We do not take any cut from this charge, and forward it directly to Stripe.

For Hotplate to make revenue, we charge a fee to our Chef’s customers at checkout, usually amounting to $1.35 on a standard order. We charge this fee based solely upon subtotal, and we never take any additional fees from tip, tax, delivery fees, or anything else our Chef’s charge.

This fee is 5% of the order subtotal + 55¢.

Do you take any additional fees when I payout?

Nope! All our fees are accounted for on a per order basis. 

At checkout, any customer can see the fees we charge before they enter their card info, under a line item called “Taxes and Fees”. See the below screenshot for an example:

Go to your Settings --> scroll down to "General" --> click "Update" in the "Update your URL" box:

From there, you can change your URL, and hit "Update Username" when you're done!

After updating your username, we will save your old username and forward all traffic from it to your new one for 30 days.

After 30 days, your old username will be released and available for others to use. This also means the QR code linked to your old username will no longer work.

You can change your username once every 7 days. Your customers will experience no interruptions.

The best way to edit orders is to go to the 

 at the bottom of the order you want to change and click 

You can edit any order fulfillment type (pickup or delivery), location, pickup time or day, or add notes for yourself!

You can do a “simple” or dollar-based refund, or item-based refund.

If you opt for an item-based refund, you can opt to restock those items once refunded.

Please note that we cannot refund our fees.
