Add option group
Last updated November 11, 2024
Do you want to add flavors, quantities, or other customizations to a menu item?
For example, maybe you are selling
- 🍪 cookies, and your customers can buy them individually or in multi-packs
- 🥯 a dozen bagels, and your customers can pick how many plain, poppy, etc.
- 🍕 pizza, and your customers can choose the type of crust and toppings
To do this, use Item Options.
- Create a menu item
- Click Edit item details
- Scroll down to Item Options and click Add Option Group
Your Option Group might be Flavor, Toppings, Quantity, or something else! Here's how to set up those 3 examples above.
COOKIES 🍪
- My Option Group is called Quantity because my cookies come in 3 different pack sizes
- I set the base price to $3. This is the price of the cheapest option, the single cookie.
- 1 single cookie adds $0 to the $3 base price = $3
- Pack of 3 adds $5 to the $3 base price = $8
- Pack of 12 adds $27 to the $3 base price = $30
BAGELS 🥯
- My Option Group is called Flavor and the options are Plain, Everything, Sesame, and Cinnamon Raisin.
- I checked Enable customers to customize the quantity of each option, because I want to let my customers pick any combo of 12. They can pick 12 plain, or 1 Plain + 11 Cinnamon Raisin, or 3 of each, etc.
- I set Required and Max options to 12 to ensure my customers pick exactly 12...no more, no fewer!
- To get my prep list in shape, I'd also email support@hotplate.com and ask for Items within Items !
PIZZA 🍕
- I created 3 Option Groups: Crust, Sauce, and Toppings because I'm letting my customers choose each of these
- I did NOT check Enable customers to customize the quantity of each option, because each option was a Yes or No.
- Required and Max options
- I set Required to 1 and Max to 1 for Crust and Sauce because each pizza must have 1 (and only 1) type of crust, and 1 (and only 1) type of sauce.
- I set Required to 0 and Max to 5 for Toppings because a customer can choose none (for a plain cheese pizza) or as many as all 5 (for a deliciously loaded pizza)!
